These Snowflake Obsidian chip beads are really beautiful. They are tumble polished and holes drilled and threaded on a 31.5 inch strand, size of chips 5-8mmx5-8mm- no two pieces the same... Approx 70gms.
This is lovely gemstone- it is igneous in origin and cools to a glass. It is black with grey and the contrasting colours make it interesting, but wait til you study the composition of the material- so eye-catching and pretty if you want to add a bit of interest to your mosaic.... You'll love it. This is great to use in mosaics, just lay it so the hole is not visible in your work. Use thin-set or mastic to enable you to position the small pieces just where and how you want. You won't be able to do that as easily by using Weldbond.
You can also tint your adhesive and just embed the gemstones, and not have to grout after. There are so many options when making mosaics, it is good to try to think through your whole project to plan out what to do where, and how you will handle different materials within your project.
