.......................................................................................................................................

Filato is a thin strip of coloured glass, manufactured usually in Italy, and it is used in the creation of micro mosaics. They can be purchased in the shape of a petal, flat, round, whole flower style- millefiori and other variations.....

Filati  are many Filato.

Micro-mosaics are something you can do yourself if you like working small. The long strips are cut into little lengths and embedded into an adhesive into a jewellery bezel. If you have skills and the patience of Job, you could even make whole masterpieces using the micro mosaic method. You can cut up smalti into tiny pieces to use with the filati if you like, or use small millefiori also.

You are only limited by your own imagination.

I'll make some new blogs as the material arrives, and maybe take some step by step photos as I make a piece, for you to use as a guide.

In the meantime DO NOT Google Micro-mosaics, because I warn you, they are beautiful and you will want to learn how to make them......

I did warn YOU!!!

The pic above indicates what I have in stock now, and another order will arrive this week with the mixes being refilled, out of stock colours of rounds, and some new neutral flat colours and some other goodies. Will post to Facebook when they are loaded.

Here's the link to Filato.. copy and paste or look in the drop down menu under Making Jewellery.
